SIR KEVIN ROCHAY’S MISSION TO END CHILD LABOR AND BLOOD GOLD:
A REVOLUTIONARY APPROACH TO ETHICAL GOLD MINING
In 2017, during a visit to gold mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sir Kevin Rochay was deeply affected by the inhumane conditions he observed. Children were laboring in perilous pits that frequently collapsed, often trapping them inside. Many miners suffered from blindness and various diseases, and children were born with deformities due to the prevalent use of mercury in gold extraction.
Determined to transform these dire circumstances, Sir Kevin committed over 99% of his assets and liquidity to eradicate child labor, eliminate mercury usage, and put an end to the circulation of conflict gold, also known as "blood gold."
Under his leadership, the Rochay Group has implemented several groundbreaking initiatives to promote ethical and sustainable gold mining in Africa:
Fair Compensation: Miners receive wages that are ten times higher than the industry standard, ensuring they can support their families and communities.
Child Labor Prohibition: The company enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy against child labor, guaranteeing that all workers are adults operating in safe and healthy environments.
Environmental Stewardship: By eliminating the use of mercury and other harmful chemicals, Rochay Group minimizes environmental degradation and protects the health of local populations.
Sir Kevin's unwavering dedication to ethical practices and humanitarian efforts has earned him international recognition. He was knighted in Rome for his mission to abolish child labor, eradicate mercury usage, and eliminate blood gold. Additionally, he received the Distinguished Award from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) on July 29, 2023, acknowledging his significant contributions to ethical gold production and philanthropy.
